Aluminium round tubing is a popular material due to its lightweight nature, high strength-to-weight ratio, and excellent corrosion resistance. It is highly versatile and used in applications ranging from structural supports to decorative frames across industries like automotive, aerospace, and construction. Key Properties & Advantages
  • Lightweight yet Strong: Aluminium tubing is about one-third the weight of steel tubing of the same size, making it easier to transport and install, but still offers impressive durability.
  • Corrosion Resistance: Aluminium naturally forms a protective oxide layer when exposed to air, which makes it highly resistant to corrosion in various environments, including marine and outdoor applications.
  • Thermal and Electrical Conductivity: It has excellent thermal and electrical conductivity, making it suitable for heat exchange systems and electrical components.
  • Workability: Aluminium is easy to cut, drill, bend, and weld using common tools and techniques, which is why it's a favorite for DIY projects and fabrication.
  • Recyclability: Aluminium is 100% recyclable without losing its natural properties, making it an environmentally friendly choice.
Common GradesThe most common alloys for aluminium round tubing are 6061 and 6063, both part of the 6000 series that use magnesium and silicon as primary alloying elements.
Feature Aluminium 6061Aluminium 6063
Primary Use Structural applications, heavy-duty machinery, aerospace components. Architectural projects, furniture, window/door frames, railings.
Strength Higher tensile and yield strength; considered "structural aluminum". Lower strength than 6061, a "medium strength alloy".
Surface Finish Fair; not typically chosen for aesthetics alone. Excellent; ideal for anodizing and achieving a smooth, decorative finish.
Weldability Good, but often requires heat treatment after welding for strength. Better weldability; suitable for welding structural parts without post-weld treatment.

  • Durability & Weather Resistance: Aluminium will not rust, withstands moisture & weather better than many metals.

  • Low Maintenance: Sliding mechanism simple; regular cleaning and occasional lubrication is usually enough.

  • Aesthetic & Slim Profiles: Aluminium sections allow slim frames, more glass-to-frame ratio, better views/light.

  • Flexibility: Many designs, finishes, glass options, tracks etc.

  • Space-Efficient: Sliding doesn’t need swing room, good for tight spaces.

Disadvantages / What to Watch Out For
  • Thermal Conductivity: Aluminium is a good conductor — without thermal break or good glazing, it can make interiors hotter or colder.

  • Noise / Sealing: Poorly fitted or lower quality hardware may allow air leakage, noise, or water seepage. The quality of seals / weather-beading matters.

  • Operation Smoothness: Rollers & tracks must be good quality; cheap ones wear quickly or jam.

  • Cost Variation: Premium finishes / thicker glass / more elaborate frames can go up in cost quickly.

  • Installation Quality: Even the best window performs poorly if badly installed (alignment, sealing, drainage etc).

What to Check Before Buying

If you’re considering one, here are checklist items:

  1. Profile Section Details: what “Jindal series” is it? Dimensions, wall thickness, visible face.

  2. Glass Spec: thickness, clear/tinted/toughened/double glazed etc.

  3. Finish & Coating: powder coat / anodized / wood-look etc; check durability of coating.

  4. Track / Roller System: type and load capacity of rollers; number of tracks; ease of replacement.

  5. Locking & Seal: how many locks; whether weather sealing/gasket is provided/quality.

  6. Drainage / Weep holes: check design for rainwater drainage.

  7. Warranty / After Sales: for the frame finish, hardware, and glass.

  8. Price Breakdown: quoted per sq ft or per unit; ask whether installation, transport etc included.

Extruded aluminum tubing is a versatile product made by forcing heated aluminum alloy through a shaped die to create components with a continuous, specific cross-sectional profile. It is valued for its high strength-to-weight ratio, excellent corrosion resistance, and design flexibility, making it a staple in numerous industries. Key BenefitsThe extrusion process and inherent properties of aluminum offer significant advantages:
  • Lightweight & Strong: Aluminium is about one-third the weight of steel, yet certain alloys and extrusion designs (e.g., with internal reinforcements) provide comparable or superior strength for specific applications.
  • Corrosion Resistance: Aluminium naturally forms a protective oxide layer that makes it highly resistant to rust and degradation, a quality that can be further enhanced by finishes like anodizing or powder coating.
  • Design Flexibility: The process allows for the creation of intricate and complex shapes, including hollow, semi-hollow, and various multi-chambered profiles (e.g., T-slots), which simplify assembly and reduce the need for mechanical joints.
  • Thermal & Electrical Conductivity: Extruded aluminium is an excellent conductor of heat and electricity, making it suitable for applications such as heat sinks and electrical grounding systems.
  • Cost-Effectiveness: The extrusion process is relatively inexpensive for tooling and production compared to other metal forming methods, with minimal material waste due to high recyclability.
Common Shapes and ApplicationsExtruded aluminum tubing is available in various standard and custom shapes, each suited to specific uses:
